the problem of biography and criticism will plague the arts forever. the tyranny of adjective rains (& reigns) over even the most sensitive criticism. & biography is always  perverted by the insertion of institution, genre, “schools,” socio-economics, employment history. what about the date of birth?  the place one was born? it might be the only relevant piece of information, and even this information is flimsy. the world is passing away, and also its lusts… but i’ll say here anyway that i earned much of my keep all by writing & listening & this may have been the best job i’ll ever have, aside from caring for children….
